I was born and raised in Puerto Rico to a larger-than-life, ex-Miss-Universe Puerto Rican mom and an ex-pat American singer-slash-nightclub-owner dad. Five years of bad-romancing led to divorce, and my mom did a total one-eighty and married a sensible Cuban engineer, who tried his hardest to raise me anti-Castro and pro-Canseco. The anti-Castro part worked. I first left the island for college in NY then moved back to Puerto Rico to works as a journalist, then moved to Los Angeles for film school, then moved back to Puerto Rico, then moved back again to Los Angeles. Yeah, there’s no fully escaping the motherisland. Since 2011, I’ve been working as a TV writer in LA. That is, until my mom successfully guilts me into moving back home.
